Cynthia Nixon is an American actress born on April 9, 1966 in New York City. She started her acting career at the age of 12 in the 1979 ABC Afterschool Special, The Seven Wishes of a Rich Kid. She then made her film debut with Tatum O’Neal and Kristy McNichol in Little Darlings in 1980. On the same year she made her first step on Broadway as Dinah Lord in The Philadelphia Story. Because of her success in film, TV and theater, Cynthia Nixon became busy with various projects such as My Body, My Child, Prince of the City, I Am the Cheese, as well as off-Broadway productions of Lydie Breeze. In 1985, she starred in Lanford Wilson’s Lemon Sky opposite Jeff Daniels which was held at the Second Stage Theatre.

She graduated at the Hunter College High School, and while a freshman at Barnard College in 1984, Cynthia Nixon made history upon appearing in two hit Broadway played which were both directed by Mike Nichols. Around this time she starred in Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing as well as David Robe’s Hurlyburly. Being one of the hottest faces of Hollywood, Cynthia Nixon took part in the Oscar-winning film Amadeus, as well as the successful action suspense flick, The Manhattan Project. In 1988, she was cast in the mini-series The Murder of Mary Phagan, followed by Robert Altman’s Tanner ’88.

Among Cynthia Nixon’s theater credits include Romeo and Juliet in 1988, The Heidi Chronicles, Angels in America, Indiscretions, and The Last Night of Ballyhoo. She also became a founding member of the theatrical troupe The Drama Dept, which included Dylan Baker, John Cameron Mitchell and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Cynthia Nixon gained immense popularity when she became a vital part of the cast of HBO’s hit comedy Sex and the City as Miranda Hobbes. She won an Emmy award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for this show in 2004. When Sex and the City ended in 2004, Cynthia Nixon guest starred in ER in 2005 as well as Warm Springs playing the role of Eleanor Roosevelt.

Among her other film credits include Advice from a Caterpillar, Papa’s Angels, and Igby Goes Down.

Cynthia Nixon has two children with Danny Mozes, whom she was with from 1988 to 2003. She was reported to be bisexual and had been in a relationship with activist Christine Marinoni. Cynthia Nixon is also a breast cancer survivor.
